The bus arrived at 9:30 and we quickly got on to secure a seat on the good viewing side. We were in for a treat as we climbed the hills in Dubrovnik, we got to farewell to old city with another spectacular view. We crossed the boarder at around 11:00am, this time was a little quicker thankfully. Then we continued on to Kotor, seeing some picturesque scenery and getting a taste of what we will experience over the next few days in Kotor.
We arrived into Kotor at 12:30pm, our hotel is located in the old town but was again a short walk from the bus station, so we made our way on foot. The sun was shining but the breeze coming off the water was a little cool, perfect for walking with our back packs.
At our hotel we were greeted by the friendly manager Milos, who showed us some sights to see on a map and gave us lots of tips and hints of what to do and see whilst in Kotor. I think we will have our hands full here, there is lots to do. Milos also told us about our hotel which is in a 600 year old building.
After settling into our cute little attic room, we went for a walk to explore the old town, another stunning example of Venetian architecture. We grabbed some lunch, this time a picnic style lunch from the local supermarket and sat by the water enjoying the views.
Time for some more wandering and of course taking photos, then of course time for a couple of beers in the sun. We enjoyed some people watching, it's not as busy here as Dubrovnik which is very refreshing, still lots of groups, but certainly not as many.
After freshening up, it was time for some pre-dinner drinks, a few pints of Paulaner wheat beer, all up $14 for 4 pints, cheap as chips! It's certainly a lot less less expensive here, which is good. The old hip pocket got a work out whilst in Dubrovnik, that's for sure.
For dinner we decided it was time to enjoy some local fare, which of course meant some seafood, we went to a small local restaurant on the water front, Pete had a squid ink risotto and I had a seafood risotto, we also enjoyed some grilled vegetable. It was a lovely meal, with an even lovelier view over the water and mountains, I don't think I've been to a prettier place, it's just beautiful.
Following dinner we headed back to the room, being in the old town it's a little noisy, but nothing drastic, just a person playing piano or guitar at a local restaurant, the room is quite sound proof, but not enough to stop you hearing the music. We both went to sleep, but I was woken at 11:30pm to very loud music, at this point I thought perhaps there was a concert outside our window as after the song finished there was clapping and cheering. I got up to see what was going on, but soon thought to myself that it sounded like the music was actually inside our room. I got Pete to turn on the light, only to realise we have a radio in the room that was playing at full volume. I am not sure how it went on, maybe an alarm or perhaps one of the 600 year old ghosts had something to do with it?? I could not stop laughing, thankfully once it was turned off I had a nice peaceful sleep.
So, that is day 1 in Kotor. We have 3 nights here in total and we are looking forward to exploring this part of the world. Enjoy your Saturday folks, we are off to climb a mountain and take in some beautiful scenery :-)
