After breakfast, the rain had cleared so we took a walk down to sniper alley. This is one of the main roads in Sarajevo and sadly is known for it is known as sniper alley due to the war in the 1990's. It was a road that during the Bosnian war, was lined with sniper posts and became a dangerous place for civilians to cross. According to records, 225 people were killed crossing sniper alley during th war, sadly 60 of these people were children.
As we walked along the road you could still see remnants of war, buildings riddled with bullet holes and a sad memorial of red paint on the ground where a small child was killed. It is a somber reminder of the atrocities that occurred here not that long ago.
Following our visit to sniper alley we were going to visit a museum, but being Sunday it was closed. It was very quiet in Sarajevo today due to being a Sunday.
We grabbed a bight to eat for lunch, burek, a local speciality, pastry filled with meat and potato, so yummy! And then we went to visit a local brewery fora couple of beers. We only planned on having 2 drinks but it poured with rain whilst we were in the bar, so we ended up having 4.
The rain held off for a bit whilst we walked back to the room, we did a little souvenir shopping before having a rest back at the room before drinks and dinner.
Dinner was more local specialities, sarma (cabbage rolls) and also some stuffed peppers, yummy!
Ooh, I forgot to mention our lovely morning tea of. Bosnian coffee and baklava, so tasty.
Well, as you can see, it's been a bit of an eating and drinking day, but hey, we enjoyed it and it was a good way to escape the rain.
Tomorrow we head off to Mostar.
Sarajevo has been fantastic, I've loved the vibe of this city and the fact that it has a lot of different cultures all rolled into one. Well worth a visit!
Great write up, made me hungry and a little sad from sniper alley, travel safe. Cheers Kimmy
