Our bus to Dubrovnik did not depart until 12:30, so this gave us plenty of time to take some more photos of Mostar in the morning before we left and before the tourist crowds arrived on day trips.
Our accommodation did not include breakfast so we took a walk outside of the old city and found a cute little local cafe for Bosnian coffee. It was nice to visit somewhere outside the tourist area to experience a more local side of life. The man in the cafe spoke little English but we were able to communicate enough to get two coffees and a delicious local pastry. It was so good. The smile on the cafe owners face was just lovely as we thanked him for his service. Truly a memorable experience.
We strolled the old town taking a few more photos, by this time it was nearing 11:00am, so given we were going to be on the bus over lunch time, we grabbed another snack from the bakery and ate it looking over at the old bridge.
The bus station was a short walk, so we made our way to the bus which arrived pretty much on time. The bus was not super full but we sat on the left side of the bus, which was a shame as the right side was the best for viewing the beautiful scenery.
The bus trip was slightly delayed at the border crossing as a local lady got pulled aside and had her bags checked. I saw that she had a large plastic bag full of a suspicious looking substance, although I think it was just tobacco! We got held up for about 45mins! So annoying!
Luckily for us we got met at the bus station by our apartment owner, Gordana. She drove us to the apartment and gave us loads of information on things to do and see. She was simply lovely and in the apartment, she kindly left pastries, juice, milk, beer and a bottle of wine! So fabulous! The apartment itself is just lovely, with a nice view over the water. It's perfectly located near the old town too, just wonderful.
Arriving into Dubrovnik, the weather finally started to change and the sun was shining just beautifully, so we decided to head to the old town for a stroll and a few beers. It was after 5pm by this stage, so it was well and truly happy hour!
The old town was very busy, as it was last time we were here in 2002, Gordana mentioned that Dubrovnik is a lot more over run with tourists now, especially early in the day, so it will be interesting to see what it is like tomorrow.
Despite the crowds, you can't help but be amazed at the old town though. It is simply beautiful and I can't help but love the marble walkways and the Venetian style architecture. It is just spectacular here. We wandered about for a bit before grabbing a couple of beers in a bar on the main square, it is a lot more expensive here than our last visit, prices are more like they are at home, lucky for us, we are in a better financial position to be able to afford this than we were last time.
For dinner we decided on pizza, we've had a bit of a meat frenzy the last few days, so a Quattro formaggio was decided upon and a caprese salad! It was delicious.
By now it was nearing 10pm and it had been a long day, so we headed back to the apartment, a short stroll from the old town.
We are hoping for some more sunshine tomorrow and can't wait to get out and explore Dubrovnik for a second time. I just love it here, it truly is a magical place.
