2 palaces and last day in Vienna

After another great sleep, we awoke to another cool cloudy day here in Vienna, we did not let this bother us though, we had sights to see!

After a light breakfast we got ourselves ready and headed to Cafe Sperl, just across the road for a coffee and some cake, I'd been dying for cake since we arrived in Vienna as it is known for its lovely treats, so I was very excited for this visit to Cafe Sperl. I decided on a Salburger cheesecake and Pete had traditional apple strudel, both were lovely and went so well with our espresso coffee.

Today we planned to visit two palaces, the first being Schönbrunn Palace which is a little far to walk in such a dreary day, so we made our way to the U-Bahn, where we caught the U4 line out to the palace. It was a quick trip and a short walk from the U-Bahn saw us at the palace gates.

In typical Megsy and Pete fashion, we had decided not to enter the actual palace, as our desire was to take photos of the outside and enjoy the lovely gardens. And, lovely they were. Admittedly, they would be more lovely in a warmer day, but none the less we enjoyed them immensely, taking lots of pictures and imagining the times when royalty strolled these very grounds. Very ornate and beautiful.

Luckily despite a bit of rain, we managed to avoid getting wet or having to use our trusty umbrellas, and following having a good walk around the grounds we caught the U-Bahn back into the city, where we headed to our next destination, Belvedere Palace.  Also anothe beautiful building, but let down by the gardens which were in need of a bit of tender loving care., nothing a good mower, whipper snipper and hedge trimmer wouldn't fix! But still, we walked around enjoying the lovely building and taking photos accross the city, there were some good views.

Following our visit to Belevedere palace, we walked back through the city, taking in one last look at the sights, and dodging the heaving crowds. By now the sun had come out, it was quite lovely, so we sat and had a sandwich for lunch (it was a late lunch, we'd only just burnt off the cake!). After eating our snack, we headed back towards our apartment and did some groceries in preparation for dinner.

We headed back to the apartment to drop off the groceries and freshen up, then it was time to go for a few final drinks at the Naschmarkets. We sat inside tonight as it was getting cool again, lucky we did as a big down pour occurred, sending people scurrying for cover, whilst we were safely sat indoors!

After drinks we headed back to the room and did a bit of packing for tomorrow before cooking dinner and enjoying some nice wine. Dinner tonight was spinach and ricotta tortellini with pesto, such an easy meal and allowed us to finish off all of our grocery supplies.

We are now relaxing on the couch enjoying our last night in our apartment. Tomorrow we head to Nuremburg on the 8:44am train, it's an early train for a Sunday but takes almost 5 hours so we don't want to arrive too late into Nuremberg. We are looking forward to the high speed train.

Well folks, that was Vienna, we have enjoyed our time here, experiencing the local bars, some great tourist sights and seeing some beautiful grand buildings. Stay tuned to see what exciting adventures await as we head over the boarder to Germany! The land of sausages, beer, chocolate and for Pete, German football!

Happy Sunday everyone xx
