Day trip to Bratislava

It was a little more of a grey cloudy day when we awoke today, however as we were going to Bratislava for the day, we did not need to be concerned about the weather in Vienna.

We ate breakfast at the apartment and then made our way to the Wien Hauptbahnhof where we bought our tickets for a 10:00am train. It was a good deal, 16 euro per person which included bus travel in Bratislava, this was good given the station is a little out of town.

The train trip was of course super efficient and we arrived into Bratislava at 10:59am. Whilst on the train I also received a message from our airbnb host telling us where the fuse box was so we could take a look at this on our return to Vienna. Yay!

We caught a local bus into the old town of Bratislava and started off our little walking tour of the old town with a coffee at a cute little coffee place. Field up and ready to go, we spent the next few hours taking into the gorgeous sights and just enjoying being in another country for the day. It's amazing travelling for 1 hr and you are in another country!

Whilst meandering the streets we looked for places to have lunch and by 1pm decided we were quite hungry so stopped for a beer and some local food. We shared a schnitzel and some dumplings, both quite good, but maybe we should have saved ourself for the schnitzel in Vienna. The beer was really good and you totally can see a big price difference between Vienna and Bratislava, it's way cheaper in Bratislava.

The old town centre itself is very small, so after lunch we walked a little more and enjoyed the sunshine, it was certainly a nicer day in Bratislava than when we left Vienna this morning. At around 3pm we decided unless we were going to take the hilly walk up to the castle it was probably a good time to head back to Vienna and we took a walk back to the station. The train home leaves from a closer station, only about a 20 minute walk, and given our big lunch it was good to take a walk.

The train back to Vienna left on schedule at 3:43pm, and we arrived back into Vienna at 4:48pm, again, right on time. It was a pleasant journey, although I did have a little snooze after our big lunch!

We decided to walk back to the apartment, again, it's not far and it saved us using the metro (yes, I was being tight, the metro costs more than an afternoon beverage for the two of us, so we preferred to walk the 2km).

We made our way straight back to the apartment, after a little bit of map reading issues from me. First thing we did was find the fuse box, conveniently located behind a cupboard, and bang, on came the kitchen power! Yay, we could cook our food and no need to go out for dinner tonight.

We had to buy a couple of things for our breakfast tomorrow, so went to the supermarket, via the Naschmarket, where we went to the same bar as last night and had a couple of drinks before finishing our walk to the super market. Again, we had a lovely time people and dog watching! So much fun.

Back to the apartment, where we cooked ourselves dinner, with much relief that the power worked.

It was a lovely day, we thoroughly enjoyed visiting Bratislava, it's yet another gorgeous little fairytale type city, just wonderful.

Tomorrow is our last day in Vienna and we plan on visiting two of the palaces, so hopefully the weather is nice. I also want to have some apple strudel!

Hope you all have a lovely Saturday, I know I plan on doing just that myself :-)
