Goodbye Nuremberg, hello Munich

We decided not to head to Munich to early today given that we have been there before and it was such a sunny morning, we wanted to have one last look around Nuremberg whilst the sun was shining.

We headed out for a walk along the canal and came across some lovely bridges, one was a bridge with a roof much like you see in Lucerne in Switzerland and another was a suspension style bridge.  It was so lovely walking along here in the sunshine and admiring the timber houses that sit alongside the canal.

From the canal we headed up along the outer city walls, we had missed these the other day due to the rain and it was good to get a perspective of how Nuremberg was once a walled city. We both love a walled city!

After walking for a a while it was time to head back to catch our train, but on the any we stopped for a bit of souvenir shopping, I bought myself the cutest little miniature German style house, shame I could not buy a real one :-)

We got to the train station with time to spare for our 11:10 train. Now I've always raved about the efficiency of German trains, however today was not going to be a shining example of their efficiently. Our train pulled in half an hour late, however it did make up time on the journey and we only arrived 20 minutes late into Munich at around 1:10pm. We caught a regional train rather than an express train, as this was a lot cheaper by around €90!

From Munich Hauptbahnhof it was only a short walk to our hotel, the Motel One Sendlingertor and we were lucky enough to be able to check straight in. The room is quite nice, basic, but nicely decorated, a little like an I is but slightly classier.

After checking in we were a little hungry to went to a favourite beer hall of ours, the Augustiner and we had a couple of beers and some weiswurst. Following our beers we made our way back to the hotel taking a bit of walk along the way and sussing out some of the places we visited last time we were in Munich. I do have to say, like Vienna, you can see a notable difference here with the large influx of tourists. It is a lot busier than last time we were here 13 years ago. We also noticed there are loads of beggars, and also many refugees hanging out at the train station. There are also your typical tacky tourist sights, like men dressed as dragons or the good old person painted in gold.

After freshening up we headed out again for dinner and yet more beer. We both had a sausage dish for dinner, but mine was sort of like a stir fry with chopped sausages and heaps of veggies, it was so good! Once we'd had dinner we stopped at one more beer hall on the way back to the hotel.

Again, it's not been a hugely eventful day as days of travel never are. But we both were glad to be able to experience a bit more of Nuremberg when the sun was shining, it's such a lovely city. As for Munich, time will tell as to whether we still love it as much. We love the beer halls and they are still here, but the city itself seems to have changed, we may need to scratch beneath the surface a bit more to rediscover the joys of Munich!

Until then folks, hope you enjoy your Friday. I'm hoping for a bit more sunshine and plan on visiting a few beer gardens!

Cheerio for now!
