Another day in Plovdiv

Another sleep in today as we had a crusty day ahead of us, so no need to rush. After eating our yoghurt and banana, we went for a coffee and then headed to the bus station to book our bus for tomorrow's trip to Veliko Tărnovo. It was an easy walk, about 30 minutes and we arrived at the station. We managed to purchase our tickets from the ticket lady, who did not speak a lot of English, but appeared quite chuffed to have been able to assist us. We leave tomorrow morning at 8:30 am, so will arrive in Veliko Tărnovo at around 11:55am.

Following our trip to the bus station we made our way to the roman amphitheater, this was rediscovered back in 1972, and dates back to roman times. It has clearly been renovated, but is an amazing example of roman architecture, we enjoyed exploring the amphitheater and of course taking lots of photos.

As we had already seen most of the old town, we headed down to the newer part of town where we saw another old amphitheater, not as big as the other and a beautiful mosque. We also strolled the main shopping street, which on a Saturday was completely bustling with locals. There are some very pretty building lining the shopping strip, Plovdiv certainly is a gorgeous place.

After strolling for a number of hours, we decided to stop for a few beers at a local cafe, whilst it was enjoyable sitting in the shade of the umbrella, people watching, unfortunately, the beer was a little warm, so we moved to another bar. We enjoyed this new bar immensely as they were playing more modern music and the staff were very nice.

We had not eaten lunch today, as had not really been hungry, but for dinner we again decided to do a grocery shop and eat in, given we have an apartment, it makes more sense than eating out, after all we have another 11 nights before our next apartment, so wanted to make the most of being able to relax and feel at home.

We grabbed some chicken, tomatoes, cheese, ajvar (Serbian style chutney/relish) and bread, and of course another bottle of wine. We have spent the evening enjoying this feast and of course packing our bags up ready to hit the road in the morning.

Plovdiv has been a lovely unique little spot, I've enjoyed the architecture, the arty vibe and the people we've met along the way. Our accommodation had been good, enabling us to chill out before venturing further. I'd highly recommend Plovdiv as a place to visit, although recognise it's not exactly on the normal tourist trail.

I hope you're all continuing to enjoy the long weekend folks. Until next time, take it easy :-)
