Our hotel in Belgrade includes brekky, so after eating a big breakfast we hit the streets to explore Belgrade.
We headed up to the old fort and took a look a round, entry is free so that was a bonus. We were surprised by the number of tourists around this area as we did not think many tour groups came to Belgrade, but it appears some river boats frequent here as we heard the odd Australian accent and notice a group from insight tours.
After exploring the fort and taking in the views of the river we headed over to the bohemian Skadarska street, filled with pretty flowers, the restaurants here are quite touristy, however also frequented by locals. We enjoyed a couple a beers, it was a warm day today, around 30 degrees, so walking around was tough work!
Some more photo opportunities arose on the way back to the hotel to freshen up, it's a busy city with some beautiful architecture, but also some very ugly structures built in the modern era. It's quite contrasting.
On the way back to the hotel we grabbed a light lunch, focaccia for me and a baguette for Pete, in a small local cafe, which was very enjoyable.
We headed out for happy hour at around 5pm, we have had some trouble with our iPhone charger today, not sure if it is the charger itself or the power points at our hotel! We have found an Apple Store, so a purchase of a new charger may be in order, I'd feel as though I'd lost my right arm if I did not have my phone.
Following drinks we grabbed a light dinner, Caesar salad tonight, followed by an ice cream which was super tasty.
We are both enjoying Belgrade, it's a lot different to what I thought. Heaps of awesome cafes and restaurants. We head to Sofia tomorrow night on the over night train. Tomorrow will be filled with mores sight seeing before catching the train at 10:05pm.
I look forward to touching more on this interesting, contrasting city!
